Growing up in Opa-locka neighborhood of Miami, Derrick “DJ” Townsel had never even heard of yoga until high school. But it was after several years of playing professional football—and feeling physically, mentally, and emotionally drained—that led him to YouTube, where he typed in “beginners yoga class” and started stretching out his tight shoulder and hips in daily 20-minute sessions.
